Workshop Description
This intensive workshop teaches the FLASH Technique with the aim of extending its use to groups and community intervention, as an approach that can be used for rapidly reducing traumatic stress and supporting individuals including children and groups affected by adversity, violence (ex: school and mass shooting), and natural disasters such as earthquakes and wildfires.
Developed by Philip Manfield and adapted by leading trauma specialist Sik-Lam Wong, the FLASH Technique is an evidenced-based therapeutic intervention that offers a non-intrusive, efficient method for desensitizing traumatic memories without requiring clients to connect to their trauma memories, therefore limiting emotional discomfort.
During this workshop, Dr. Carvalho will also present adaptations of the Flash Techniques to extend this methodology into group settings, enabling practitioners to reach larger populations. The application and integration of the Group Flash Technique will be discussed in relation to self-help groups such as divorce, grief, and addiction recovery.
Through a live demo, attendees will be able to see how the theory translates into practice. Upon completing this workshop, attendees will be able to integrate the Flash Technique into their psychotherapy practice immediately.
