Register Today and Bring Polyvagal Theory to Life in Your Practice!

Join our Embodying Polyvagal Theory online workshop and explore the intersection of neuroscience, therapy and the body.

Whether you're new to Polyvagal Theory or looking to refine your existing approach, this workshop offers rich insights into applying the theory through the lens of embodiment and somatic work.

Working explicitly with the body offers powerful "bottom-up" approaches

to the polyvagal theory-informed work

Workshop Description

This workshop combines didactic and body-based approaches to Polyvagal theory and regulation of the autonomic nervous system, offering depth for practitioners across experience levels. Through guided practice, participants will explore how to help clients feel safe, reconnect with themselves, and engage with others more effectively.

Understanding the nervous system's role in emotional regulation and trauma recovery is key to deepening your therapeutic approach. Polyvagal Theory provides a nuanced framework for engaging clients more effectively, helping them move from states of survival to states of greater resilience.

As therapists, we know that our experiences of safety, danger, and life threats, shape our personal narratives, often beyond our conscious control. Polyvagal Theory offers an understanding of how our autonomic nervous system (ANS) influences these processes.

Developed by renowned researcher Stephen Porges, this theory provides a framework for understanding how we move through cycles of mobilization, disconnection, and engagement with the world.

In This Workshop, You Will Explore:

  • Nuanced understanding of how the autonomic nervous system impacts clients' physiology, movement, behaviors and emotional regulation.

  • Strategic approaches to guiding clients back to a sense of safety.

  • Refined methods for helping repattern the autonomic nervous system.

  • Targeted body-based interventions to enhance client outcomes

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the basic principles of the Polyvagal Theory and its relevance to psychoemotional difficulties in simple terms that can be understood by clients.

  2. Explain at least two (2) primary components of the polyvagal response system and how they influence emotional regulation and behavior.

  3. Describe neuroception of safety, danger and life threat to clients.

  4. Explain how clients can learn to shift their state in therapy using an embodied approach that integrates Polyvagal Theory principles.

  5. Demonstrate at least three body/movement-based techniques for enhancing ventral vagal tone, helping clients and yourself engage in self-regulation and co-regulation during sessions.
