A key component of case conceptualization is determining priorities for which target memories to reprocess. Too often EMDR clinicians fail to think strategically and consistently about target selection, rely heavily on clients to know what to target, or are just unaware of targeting options. Yet, there are a variety of proven targeting strategies that create efficient “routes” for adaptive memory reprocessing and bring optimal relief of clinical symptoms.

This 3-part program will guide EMDR clinicians to determine which target selection is most fitting for each client at any moment in time. These different types of case conceptualizations have been tested in the presenters’ clinical work and through scientific research. They include:

1- The ''Timeline route'' for most mental health symptoms, such as sleeping problems, or feeling depressed.

2- The ''Intrusion route'' for trauma-related conditions, such as PTSD.

3- The ''Floatback route'', for difficult emotions or bodily symptoms, the method EMDR therapists are probably most familiar with.

4- The "Belief route'' for cases where irrational and negative core cognitions, about the person themselves, are central.

5- The ''Emotion route'' for when strong emotions such as guilt and anger are in the foreground.

6- The "Flashforward route'", for anticipatory fear and anxiety disorders.

Participants will be taught how to carry out case conceptualization and develop different targeting plans. By watching live demo during each session, participants will acquire the competences and master the material to become more effective in applying EMDR therapy.
