Psychologists, Social Workers, Psychotherapists, MFTs, LPCs, graduate-level Counselors
100 % online with 1 YEAR access: Develop your skills from the comfort of your home office.
Original Air Date: December 6th, 2025
Course Description
Programs are typically focused on skills for the therapist. In this training, we will focus on skills that are helpful for clients to learn. While therapeutic work is supported by interventions from the therapist, the most effective outcomes of therapy come from empowerment of the client to adapt differently by learning more successful life and emotional skills.
We will begin with safety skills to reduce and eliminate self harm, suicidality, and other self-destructive coping strategies. Then we will move on to a trifecta of skills that promote more adaptive functioning in daily life and better prepare clients for trauma processing. These include emotion regulation and distress tolerance skills, mentalizing and reflective practices, and mindfulness skills. In addition, we will explore several other types of skills that may help certain clients, such as relational skills to manage conflict more effectively; skills to support more effective sleep; skills to resolve internal conflicts; skills to gently work with avoidance, and finally, skills clients can use to work with their dissociative parts.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
-
Identify at least two (2) skills deficits in clients in order to help fill in gaps in capacity.
-
